Welcome Autumn

I've been meaning to start a blog for quite some time, I'm not sure what made me finally decide to go for it, but here I am. I'm hoping to fill the space with things I've created including the inspiration and process behind them. I consider myself a creative individual and really love it when I stumble upon new things to try out. Sometimes it can go well but I've also had my fair share of epic fails too.

I'm also hoping to write about how I keep myself happy, mental health is a really important subject to me. Being creative has been at the forefront of this and I'm lucky enough to be able to promote this in my work with children and young people. I love the outdoors, being surrounded by natural beauty and often use the excuse of walking Daisy, my French Bulldog, to get out in the fresh air. I'm often nagging at my two teenage children to get outdoors more but the lure of the computer screen is far to compelling for them. This is something I really want to try and change over the next year. As much as technology has enormous benefits for our young people I'm also in the belief that it can be a factor in the decrease in mental health. I could go on quite a rant about that so I shall reign myself in on that subject for now. 

I am also keen to share with my readers my love for the charity shops, car boots, jumble sales and flea markets. I'm a keen dressmaker but do so on a shoestring budget. One of my favourite hobbies is finding vintage and retro fabrics and turning them into dresses. I feel I'm doing my bit for sustainable fashion and upcycling. That and I love a good bargain!

    Lovely to read more about you after being an IG for ages! You and I are very alike with our love of secondhand bargain hunting and making vintage curtains and sheets into clothes.

      Awww, thank you! We most definitely are kindred spirits - I can't help but love a bargain. The charity shops are my second home. Daisy thanks you for her compliment too. She's a cute handful :) xxx

Cross Stitch Saves the Day!

  I have been a cross stitcher for many, many years. It began in childhood, when my Nan babysat one evening. She introduced me to the world of cross stitch when I was about ten years old. I have cross sticthed on and off since then, so almost 30 years!! Giving away my age there.. 2020 was an absolute stinker of a year. Life's a Climb but the View is Worth it!

I truly am a lazy blogger. I had every intention of keeping this blog up to date but to no avail. So this evening instead of wasting hours trawling through Facebook posts I decided to actually put something on here. I wanted to share a recent walk (or hike it felt like) up Brent Knoll in Somerset. If you're ever travelling in the region its worth a visit. Especially if you appreciate the great outdoors and some stunning views. I am certainly not an 'active' or 'fit' person, but the climb up this hill really was worth the effort. I did have to resort to being pushed at one point from my ever helpful husband and kids. It did make me realise that I need to get out and do more of this sort of thing. I love being outdoors, very much so when the sun is shining too. This particular day was gorgeous, clear blue skies and a gentle breeze which was a welcome relief from the heat. Feeling 'Lighter'

I'm back from a long slumber away from blogging. I had every intention to be dedicated with my blog and post regularly, but life does generally get in the way. Autumn was the start of my emotional decline. My mood was incredibly low and I couldn't understand why. It turns out, after many tears, self berating and general feeling rubbish, I have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The Dr recommended using light therapy as during our discussions (and looking back through past diaries) the low mood was found to be a recurring pattern during late Autumn and Winter months. I have to admit I was really sceptical, I just couldn't see how a light would make any difference at all. I decided to take vitamin D alongside the light therapy too. My husband did lots of thorough research online and we ended up buying a Redstone SAD Light Box. Apparently you need to buy a light of 10,000 Lux for it to be effective.
