I truly am a lazy blogger. I had every intention of keeping this blog up to date but to no avail. So this evening instead of wasting hours trawling through Facebook posts I decided to actually put something on here. I wanted to share a recent walk (or hike it felt like) up Brent Knoll in Somerset. If you're ever travelling in the region its worth a visit. Especially if you appreciate the great outdoors and some stunning views.
I am certainly not an 'active' or 'fit' person, but the climb up this hill really was worth the effort. I did have to resort to being pushed at one point from my ever helpful husband and kids. It did make me realise that I need to get out and do more of this sort of thing. I love being outdoors, very much so when the sun is shining too. This particular day was gorgeous, clear blue skies and a gentle breeze which was a welcome relief from the heat.

This is the sign that greets you on the last hurdle of the climb, probably the steepest bit too! |
When we went for our little expedition up Brent Knoll it was over the Easter holiday. Every year three huge crosses are put up at the top. You can see the crosses from down below (I always notice them when travelling down the A38). Even those not religious can take a moment to appreciate the feat of getting these heavy, cumbersome crosses up Brent Knoll. I found it a struggle enough just to get myself up there, let alone carrying huge crucifixes. I have no idea who or how they put these up each year, but I think its a lovely tradition that I hope continues for many years to come.

Doesn't look steep, but believe me it gets a lot more vertical than this! |
Calves and thighs burning on the decline back to the car was worth it. I never get bored of the views at the top of Brent Knoll, once known as the 'Mount of Frogs' by the Romans. You can see right over the channel towards Wales, also a tiny glimpse of Weston's Grand Pier in the distance. We always have fun trying to point out family and friend's homes or other landmarks. Get outside, get fresh air and feel rejuvenated.
